Someone is 70 today...
Someone spends hours every Monday evening with the men’s selection committee sorting out 7 teams for the following weekend’s matches.
Someone helps find umpires for each weekend’s matches, and often ends up umpiring 2 or even 3 of them each weekend himself.
Someone keeps on top of the huge amount of administrative, legal and regulatory work that running a club the size of ours entails (even when other members of the exec forget!)
Someone washes and clears the beer lines most weeks.
Someone will turn up to help out with junior training if we’re desperately short.
Someone liaises with the managers and captains of all the teams and is always there to lend a hand if problems crop up.
Someone diplomatically and diligently liaises with EH, the leagues, the local council and our neighbours at Gardenhurst.
Someone gets behind the bar and pulls pints on match days without complaint.
Someone calmly (usually...!) chairs the club exec (and quite frequently ends up taking the minutes as well).
Someone is often the first port of call when we need some sound advice.
Someone does all this and more for our club.
That someone is Howard. Probably more than most (apart from Sue!), those of us on the exec see how much Howard does for the club and realise how lucky we are to have him.
So, on behalf of all Deeside Ramblers, today we say a very big thank you and very happy 70th birthday to Howard.
